New Web Punks at Metropolia

We had the pleasure of being hosted by Metropolia to give a one-day workshop on the latest version of HammerKit. It was a fantastic day with a group of 50 1st and 3rd year students of industrial management. The key finding of the day was that almost all of them would like to use HammerKit in the future.

The day kicked off with me giving a presentation about the company, the history, the technology and the future. We received some really interesting questions from the group about this, especiall around the concept of how the Internet industry is going to change in the near future.

We then went on to the workshop where all 50 students worked to create a great little app that had been designed as a test case by Memphis. Called "Yitter" (or yet another twitter mashup), it demonstrated how easy it is to build an app that integrates a twitter feed and geo-locates the tweets on the Google Map. All 50 of the students managed to build this with HammerKit - quite a feat considering most do not have any deep technical knowledge.

The day rounded off with a look at how we collect feedback with Zendesk and process bugs that we find with Mantis.�

For us, the day was about showing how easily almost any reasonably web-savvy person can use HammerKit to create a really fun and exciting application. We also got to see at first hand in lab conditions how users interact with HammerKit, providing us with invaluable first-hand view of what works and does not in our interface.

Next we head to Tampere to do the very same thing...I am looking forward to it.
